There are a multitude of management styles and methods a leader can deploy to influence others. Tomestic’s Founder and CEO, Poet De’Medici, offers his perspective on how to inspire motivation and engender loyalty within the startup culture.
“Tomestic has adapted to an agile strategy. If outsourcing is required, we’ll do that. Daily, we wear the hats we need to wear. Right now, we’re doing a lot of building up. We're pitching to investors, etc.”
“If you’re persistent enough, you’ll always find the right people for what’s needed. Having the right people is vital.”
“It’s essential to learn non-verbal communication. Be very mindful of your Zoom meetings, in-person meetings and how you make people feel. That’s should always be the priority. Whatever the task, people do better work for those who give them intrinsic value. We all have that person in our lives that no matter what we’re going through, we can call them and we’re going to laugh. They’re naturally amusing which gives them value.”
“As a leader, you don’t have to be the most charming person. The question is, do you like yourself enough so that you’ll rub off on other people? If you don’t, you better have enough money to pay them. If you’re starting off in bootstrap mode, you better have something to give them. Either you’re imparting intrinsic value or monetary value. There must be a value exchange or people aren’t going to hang around.”
